Rice originates from China and that is why the world’s largest rice producer is China with more than 200 million tons produced a year. A considerable amount of this rice is exported all around the world.
However, the Chine rice is regarded to be high in pesticides, and what is more alarming, a fake rice has been sold on the market. This rice is produced artificially and steamed with a rice aroma. Namely, three portions of this rice contain plastic as in a little plastic bag.
Therefore, it is of great importance that people buy and consume genuine rice and not this hazardous plastic rice. Fortunately, there are some tricks for verifying if the rice is genuine and contains no plastic. Here are the four tests for this purpose:
4 Tests to Detect Plastic Rice
1. The Mold Test
This is probably the best and most reliable test for detecting plastic rice. All you need to do is put a little bit of cooked rice into a hermetically sealed container and keep it in a warm place for 48 hours.
If the rice becomes moldy after 2 days, it means that it is organic wholesome rice. But, if it is free of mold after this period, it means that the rice is artificial.
2. The Mortar and Pestle Test
The second test for verifying rice quality is by using mortar and pestle. Just put some rice in a mortar and crush it with a pestle in order to make a powder. If you get a starchy and white powder, the rice is real. But, if the powder shows light yellow discoloration, it means that it is plastic rice.
3. The Fire Test
For the third test, you need some rice and a lighter or a match. In order to determine if the rice is plastic, lit a few grains of rice and if they begin burning instantly that means that they are artificial rice grains. Wholesome rice won’t start burning immediately.
4. The Water Test
And last but not least, the water test can also determine the quality of rice. All you need to do is fill in a glass with water and add one tablespoon of uncooked rice into it. If the rice floats up – it is plastic, and if it sinks down to the bottom – it is a real organic rice.
So, next time you buy rice, make sure you use some of these tests to verify its quality and avoid eating plastic for lunch or dinner.
