As our bodies are made of water, every tissue, cell, and organ needs it in order to perform its functions. Hydration is vital for weight loss and energy. Moreover, a lot of chemical reactions in the body require adequate hydration, for example, metabolizing food. When you don’t hydrate the body enough, the metabolism slows down and this impedes weight loss.

Water Prevents Overeating

Often times, the body may confuse hunger and thirst. Therefore, you need to drink sufficient amounts of water prior to each meal in order to prevent weight gain and other health problems caused by dehydration.

The Negative Effects of Dehydration

  • Constipation
  • Low blood pressure
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dry mouth
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Dry skin
  • Headaches
  • Heart palpitations

Chronic dehydration may cause serious organ defects and lead to kidney stones, high levels of cholesterol, pain in the joints, and damage of the muscles.

How Much Water You Need?

Believe it or not, every person needs a different amount of water. This amount is conditioned by the weight of the individual in question. That is, the bigger the weight, the more energy and more water that body needs. To find out how much water you need to drink daily, you should do the following things:

Multiply your weight by 67% to find out how many ounces of water you need to drink daily.

Add 12 ounces of water to the daily intake of water for every 30 minutes of physical activity.

100 pounds –> 67 ounces
110 pounds –> 74 ounces
120 pounds –> 80 ounces
130 pounds –> 87 ounces
140 pounds –> 94 ounces
150 pounds –> 100 ounces
160 pounds –> 107 ounces
170 pounds –> 114 ounces
180 pounds –> 121 ounces
190 pounds –> 127 ounces
200 pounds –> 134 ounces
210 pounds –> 141 ounces
220 pounds –> 148 ounces
230 pounds –> 154 ounces
240 pounds –> 161 ounces
250 pounds –> 168 ounces

How to Stay Hydrated

Make water your daily routine- drinking a glass of water in the morning and before going to bed puts you 32 oz. into reaching your goal.

Set small goals- you can use a reusable water bottle and draw markers on it to represent your daily goals. This will motivate you to drink more water.

Improve the taste of the water

In order to improve its taste, but stay away from sugar and calories, you can add berries, lemons, cucumbers, etc. to your glass of water.
